Sixpence (British coin)
The sixpence is a Münznominal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
It involves English half - shillings, for the first time under Edward VI. Were minted in 1551 ( until 1946 in silver, from 1947 to 1970 in cupro-nickel). 1971, with the introduction of the decimal system, he was 2 ½ new pence, 1973, he was officially illegal, but remained as a token in use. Only in 1980 the sixpence was put out of circulation.
Ireland had its own until 1971 Sixpence, designed by William Butler Yeats.
Sixpence are a common symbol of good luck, especially in Great Britain. So they are baked in, among other traditional Christmas puddings and Brian May (guitarist of the rock band Queen), used such a coin to play his guitar ( Red Special ) instead of a plectrum.
