Sixto Soria Savigne (* April 27, 1954 ) is a former Cuban boxer. He was world champion in 1978 and winner of the silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in each case in the light heavyweight division.

Career

Sixto Soria grew up in the 1970s in Cuba, one of the best Cuban and therefore best amateur boxers in the world light heavyweight approach. It was after he had been taken in the Cuban national team, coached by the famous Alcide Zagarra and was a member of the Cuban army. In Cuba at that time were already each year two large Boxturniere instead, the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban national championships and were the Giraldo Córdova the Cardín, a large international boxing tournament. Since the Cuban boxers were unusually strong in those years, but it was so, that even with the Giraldo Córdova Cardín the Cuban boxers were mostly from the semifinal between themselves.

Sixto Soria took to the Cuban Championship in 1975 behind Gilberto Carrillo 2nd place and arrived at the Giraldo Córdova Cardín behind Orestes Pedroso and Gilberto Carrillo to 3rd place. In 1976, he won both tournaments and qualified for participation in the Olympic Games this year in Montreal. In Montreal, he defeated, as Cuban master he belonged automatically to the Mitfavortiten, José Rosa from Puerto Rico and Wolfgang Gruber from Germany each by knockout in the second round and won over Costică Dafinoiu from Romania by demolition in the first round and was so that in the final against Leon Spinks from the United States. In this fight, Spinks was the physically stronger fighter. Sixto Soria kept the powerful attacks Spinks only to the 3rd round was and was taken in this round defenseless from the ring. He thus won the silver medal.

1977 won Sixto Soria in Panama City at the 8th Central American and Caribbean Championships title in the light heavyweight division. He had surprisingly beaten from the Soviet Union on points Anatoli Klimanow at the 13th Army Championship of the Warsaw Pact countries ( SKDA championship) in Havana.

1978 won Sixto Soria two major international tournaments in Europe. When Strandja Memorial in Sofia he defeated Milan in the final Kalinov from Bulgaria and the tournament for the Golden Belt in Bucharest he won the final over Algirdas Jancauskas from the USSR, each light heavyweight, on points. He was also nominated for the 1978 World Cup in Belgrade. He triumphed over Mohamed mom from Ghana, Benny Pike from Australia, Nikolai Erofeev from the USSR and in the final over Tadija Kačar from Yugoslavia on points and thus became world champion in the light heavyweight division.

1979 won Sixto Soria, as early as 1978, when Giraldo Córdova Cardín tournament in Havana in the final over Hermenegildo Báez on points. But with the Cuban Championship in 1979, he was defeated by Hermenegildo Báez. He was also subject to the Chemistry Cup tournament in Halle (Saale ) against Herbert belly from the GDR. He was sent anyway to the Pan American Games in San Juan (Puerto Rico), disappointed there but because he lost there in the quarterfinals against the Americans Tony Tucker and only came on the 5th Place.

After this tournament, there were differences between Sixto Soria and the Communist-controlled Cuba's boxing federation. Soria was removed from the national team and was not allowed to fight. He ekes out since that time his living as an illegal taxi driver.
