SJ T21

T2/T21

The SJ T21 series, originally referred to as SJ T2 was purchased from Statens Järnvägar (SJ ) in the mid 1950s to replace steam locomotives on branch lines. The locomotive meets the German Type MaK 800 D ( V65 ) with some specific changes, including a larger cabin.

The order included 56 locomotives, of which ten were built under license in Sweden by AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna ( ASJ ) in Falun. Four of these locomotives were equipped from the outset with a Swedish hydraulic transmission and first received the designation SJ T3, which was amended in the 1960s, in SJ T22.

Since this transmission is not in line with expectations, the other six locomotives built in Sweden series with transmissions from German production were delivered. Two T21 locomotives were renumbered later by replacing the transmission in the series T22.

The locomotives originally had a distinctive color in reddish brown with a yellow stripe in the shape of a V on the front and rear side. In the 1990s, got some locomotives, including T21 84 and 100, according to their transfer to private operators another coat of paint.

The locomotives were used until the 1990s, both in shunting and line services. Later, many of the locomotives remained in reserve locomotives included. Then some of the machines were sold, among other things, museum railways. The locomotives were deployed throughout the country, but especially common in the areas around Nässjö and Kristinehamn. Even in Stockholm, the T21 could be observed.

T3/T22

The SJ T22 series had the same basic design as the T2/T21, but had a Swedish made hydraulic transmission. These four locomotives were built by the ASJ in Falun with the numbers 72 to 75. Two of them were later converted into the similar looking T21. The last T22 1978 scrapped.

NBJ T

The private railway company Nora Bergslags Järnväg ( NBJ ) bought four locomotives of the same type as the T21, but without the specific changes for the SJ. There they were designated as Series T and got the car numbers 21-24. These locomotives had a red paint.
