The T43 series is a Swedish diesel locomotive, which was built by NOHAB 1961-1963. The Statens for Järnvägar (SJ ) built locomotive has a two-stroke diesel engine of the type GM EMD 12 - 567C by General Motors. With multiple control up to three locomotives to operate. The locomotives are diesel- electric. Two locomotives were equipped in recent years with new engines. The No. 257 2001 received an environmentally friendly engine with better exhaust values , the No. 215 was rebuilt in 2005 in a hybrid locomotive with a combined diesel and battery power with significantly lower fuel consumption.

Use

The use of T43 enabled virtually the decommissioning of steam locomotives in Sweden. Although there were still steam locomotives as Reserveloks, but none of them has been in regular use after 1963. Until the mid- 1980s, the locomotives were used for passenger and freight transport. The main application area was the Blekinge kustbana where they drove in passenger transport. In freight transport, the T43 was used in many parts of the country. In the late 1980s, the T44 took over many of their missions. The SJ gave the locomotives in the 1990s from at Banverket and the TGOJ. From there they came to various private companies such as Green Cargo, Infranord, Tagab, Hector Rail, Rail Peterson and Inlandsbanan AB. Today, they are used almost exclusively for freight and shunting.

Color scheme

The T43 is one of the Lokbauarten the Swedish railway network that had the most color variations. Originally the locomotives were in red, white and blue painted. This color was changed in the 1970s in orange on the model of T44. In Banverket some were painted in yellow with blue cab and blue stripes on the sides, then the cab was carried out in red. The TGOJ locomotives were green with blue lines at the ends. When the locomotive was sold to private railway companies, the colors have been enhanced again. On the 150th anniversary of the Inlandsbanan has the T43 222 painted back in original color.
