Sjumansholmen

Sjumansholmen is an island in the southern part of the Gothenburg archipelago. It is the smallest built-up island. Sjumansholmen belongs to the municipality of Gothenburg, Västra Götaland County, the Swedish province. The island is built with about 30 cottages that are inhabited only in summer.

Between 1929 and 1935 the Communist Party of Sweden organized with the support of the trade union federation on the island camp for their children's organization and its educational work. In 1933 this association was founded Arbetarbarnens ö ( Isle of workers' children ). After the Second World War were increasingly built on solid accommodations Sjumansholmen. By the early 1950s, an association acquired the building from the workers union. The owners of the houses are members of this association and tenants in common of the island. The Association operates a community center, a sauna and a playground. Water and electricity gets Sjumansholmen via lines of the island Donsö. Since the 1980s, there is a regular ferry service to Saltholmen.
