Skakava Donja is a village in the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The village lies in the foothills of the Posavina Majevica Mountains. Alternatively, the name Donja Skakava used.

Population

At the 1991 census, the town had 2,272 inhabitants, of whom

2175 Croats ( 95.73 %)

40 Serbs (1.76 %)

2 Bosnijaken (0.08 %)

12 Yugoslavs (0.52 %)

43 other or unknown ethnic groups were.

In the late 1960s Skakava Donja, like many other towns in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced a high emigration. In this case, the migration area was mainly limited to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This trend continued until well on into the 70s. Another high second wave of emigration caused, of course, the war in Bosnia - Herzegovina, which found its way into Skakava 1992. These causes led to the fact that according to various reports, the population was decimated in Donja Skakava to 20% of pre-war census.
