The Austrian company SKIDATA offers worldwide access systems and management services to tourist destinations, parking space, sports stadiums, amusement parks and fairs. Gained fame as the first provider Skidata machine generated ski tickets. Today Skidata has more than 7,500 solutions for access management in mountain destinations, parks, fairs, amusement parks and airports worldwide in 16 countries, with subsidiaries and partners in 73 countries present.

History

Back in 1977 Günther Walcher, the first machine- printed ski ticket with photo and so replaced the handwritten passes. To market and further develop the company Skidata was founded in Grödig near Salzburg.

In 1979, the first registration office, an electromagnetic plunger device for printing tickets.

In 1981, the 320 system was introduced - consisting of a computer and an automated cash dispenser.

Early 1980s developed Skidata magnetic stripe tickets and introduced a system for billing in major ski resorts and ski associations one - the breakthrough on the alpine market.

Until 1986 SKIDATA market share for access management rose in ski resorts to over 80 percent.

End of the 1980s brought Skidata the first access systems with contactless technology on the market, and expanded its portfolio to parking management, sports arenas, fun parks and fair provider.

In 1990, Skidata as the first supplier of parking management, the credit card payment of the parking charge. In the same year the Munich airport was equipped as the first international airport with efficient parking management system.

From 1991 Skidata first gaining popularity in the business fairs with Messe Dusseldorf.

1995 was a collaboration with the Swiss watchmaker Swatch watches which served as access authorization.

In 1997, the French smart card manufacturer Gemplus was the majority owner of Skidata. With the newly introduced system 370, the contactless technology was introduced in the ski.

As of 2000, succeeded in further internationalization.

The takeover by the Swiss-based Kudelski Group in 2001 opened up new markets.

With the football World Cup and European Championships 2004 ( Portugal ), 2006 ( Germany ), 2008 ( Switzerland and Austria ), 2010 ( South Africa) and 2012 ( Poland and Ukraine), the stages were each equipped with Skidata solutions.

2010 won Skidata with Dallas / Fort Worth one of the world's biggest airports as park customers.

Awards

The access reader Free Motion won the 2007 Salzburg Innovation Prize. In 2008 the company received the " Intertraffic Award" for his payment and vending machine Power.Cash. And at the " Austria's Leading Companies " stand Skidata for the province of Salzburg equal to 2008 and 2009 on the podium.
