Skin appendage

Skin appendages ( adnexa ) are all structures that are formed from the dermis and epidermis. Some of the skin appendages

  • Hair and feathers
  • Horn formations such as horns, nails, horny scales, claws and hooves
  • Glands such as mammary glands, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands. Skin glands are always epidermal structure, but are often sunk deep into the dermis. The origin of the excretory ducts of the exocrine glands is traceable by these embryonic origins.

In gynecology the adnexa are indicated by the ovary and the fallopian tubes.
