Skiptvet is a commune in the province (county ) Østfold in Norway. It is located about 70 kilometers from Oslo. The area of ​​the municipality is 101.6 km ², of which 33 km ² for agriculture and 42 km ² of forestry used. The municipality is bordered to the west by the municipality Våler, on the north by the municipalities Spydeberg and Askim, on the east by the municipalities Eidsberg and Rakkestad and to the municipality of Sarpsborg in the south. The highest point of the municipality is called Jonsrudåsen (225 moh. ).

Name and history

It is assumed that the first humans settled about 8000 years ago on the territory of the municipality, especially along the river Glomma where the best living conditions prevailed.

Historically, the industry did not play a significant role in Skiptvet. Around the local dairy farm, however, developed a village. Meieribyen (about: " Dairy City " ) today forms the center of the municipality.

Economy

Traditionally dominated the land and Fortstwirtschaft in Skiptvet; earlier there were also several rafters land in the community. Today there are still 16% of all people employed in the agriculture and forestry works. 23 % of the working population is employed in industrial establishments; 14% work in the construction industry and in various service industries.

Train

In the commune Skiptvet there are two schools that Vestgård skole for students in 1st to 4th grade and the Kirkelund skole for students in 5th to 10th grade. The latter school also houses the local library.
