Skole

Skole (Ukrainian and Russian Сколе ) is a Ukrainian town of about 6,500 inhabitants.

It is located in the Lviv Oblast, located southwest of the district capital of Lviv at the northern foot of the Carpathian Mountains.

In 1397 the city was first mentioned in writing. Due to its location on a major trade route between Kiev / Russia and Hungary, it was influenced by many different nations. After it was under the existing since the end of the 14th century Polish rule in the hands of the Polish nobility, also German artisans were brought into the country that made the economy thrive. A determinant for the city person was Gredel Baron and his family.

1887 was the place an iron rail connection to the continued construction of the projected railway line in 1871 from Lviv to Munkács about Stry, 1880 inhabitants lived here in 2047 (mostly Poles, Ruthenians and German ). On March 30, 1888, large parts of the town burned down ( 100 houses of a total of 300). In 1913 the place already 8700 inhabitants, of whom 3200 were Jews in 2700 Poland, 2500 Ruthenians and 400 German. From 1911 to 1918, the city was also the seat of a district team, after the end of Austria -Hungary in 1918, previously located in Galicia place fell to Poland and was here from 1921 in the province Stanislav. Since 1939/1945 it is then a part of Ukraine.
