Skulpturenpark Artpark

The Sculpture Park Artpark is a 5,000 square meter sculpture park in Makartviertel in Linz, which was designed by more than 20 artists.

Location

The Sculpture Park Artpark is an inner-city sculpture garden. It is located on the roof of the shopping and service center Lenaupark City in Makartviertel, a statistical district of Lustenau. He is the only cultural institution of the district Lenaupark. The district development project Lenaupark is 43,000 m² project area, the largest urban project in Austria outside Vienna.

History and Concept

For the 43,000 m² large area around the former freight railway station, the regional development project Lenaupark was launched in 2004. A year later, the shopping and service center Lenaupark City was opened. The nearby resident sculptor and photographer Manfred Kielnhofer had the idea, the district must also include a cultural contribution. He gathered some fellow artists around and founded the Artpark, which makes the cultural revival of this otherwise dominated by apartments, offices and retail and service businesses district to the task. The opening took place in 2006, since then the outdoor sculpture garden will be expanded annually by some sculptures.

Was established in 2006 on the spot, with the collaboration of 22 artists, the integration of world globe with a diameter of 12.5 meters. The large scale installation weighs 24 tons and consists of a steel frame and 580 m² linen fabric.

Capital of Culture 2009, the project opening of the sculpture garden in 2009 was rejected. The transmitter LT1 dedicated the sculpture park opening a post with five artists interviews.

In the Sculpture Park Artpark work, among others, Jonathan Borofsky, dEmo ( Eladio de Mora ), Manfred Kielnhofer, Robert Mittringer, Arnold Pichler, Erwin Reiter, Martina Schettina, Manfred Schoeller, Pinuccio Sciola and Gerhard wishes to see. From 2009 deceased artist Willi core of the Sculpture Park Artpark has several sculptures, including an oversized Venus of Willendorf, made ​​of thousands of one -shilling coins.

The realization of this sculpture garden in urban areas was made possible through the help of sponsors, on loan from artists and curators, as well as by funding the province of Upper Austria and the city of Linz. The service is up to the club Artpark.

Events

Once a year - 1st Wednesday in April - the new season of the sculpture park will be greeted with an opening event. In this case, the new additions to the collection are presented. The members of the Art Association Artpark, including dancers, choreographers and musicians make this day.

The Sculpture Park Artpark can be visited from April to October on opening times for free.
