Sky (Band)

Sky (English: Sky ) is a British rock band.

Band History

John Williams was one of the most famous classical guitarist back in the 1960s and 1970s. His teammates were Francis Monkman (keyboards) - previously in Curved Air - Herbie Flowers (bass ) and Tristan Fry (drums). These musicians had worked together for several years again and again. Fry was a member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Together with guitarist Kevin Peek, they decided in 1978 to form a rock band.

Sky played exclusively instrumental rock music. The pieces were mostly based on classical themes or were adaptations of well-known classical pieces. The biggest hit of the group in 1980 Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565; the associated album Sky 2 season was one of the best-selling albums in the UK.

The following year, Monkman was replaced by Steve Gray. After the LP cadmium Williams got out in 1984. The group went on but. In 1987 there were on the album Mozart cooperation with Fry's old ensemble, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields under Sir Neville Marriner. This plate was a huge success in the USA. This production actually marks the culmination of Sky, although the group occasionally went on tour until 1994. Players during this time were Paul Hart (keyboards, guitar), Marc Burroughs (guitar ), Richard Durrant ( guitar). On the 1985 board Clare Torry sings. The early 1990s was the CD release of the original Sky albums.

Back in the early 1970s, the U.S. had a band called Sky. Your singer Doug Fieger was later a member of The Knack.
