Sky Italia is the largest pay- TV provider in Italy and is from the Sky Italia Srl operated. Came out Sky Italia through the merger of the two pay- TV operator DIGITAL TELE and Stream TV. Send started on 31 July 2003. Programs of the platform are also broadcast via satellite (DVB -S, Eutelsat HotBird 13A, Eutelsat HotBird 13B, Eutelsat HotBird 13C) and in Italy even IPTV. Officially the program offer can be subscribed only in Italy.

The platform was one of 31 March 2012, a subscriber base of 4.94 million subscribers ( with an estimated audience of around 14 million ). The market share was in November 2011 at 11.21 %. Sky Italia is one of the largest pay -TV operators in Europe.
Encoding
Sky Italia used, as well as Sky Germany and BSkyB, the VideoGuard which NDS - was developed - a subsidiary of News Corporation. Up to April 2004 the encryption system used Sky SECA Mediaguard 2

The offer of Sky Italia features an extensive range of different channels of different subject areas and target groups: movies, sports, entertainment, news, documentaries, music, children, teens.
These include:
- About 90 thematic channels (entertainment, kids, news, documentaries, music, etc.)
- 35 premium channels ( movies, sports )
- 28 pay-per -view channels, including 7 in High Definition
- 60 channels in high definition
- 8 channels that can be booked in addition to the existing subscription.

HDTV
Sky Italia began in May 2006 with the airing of the first four HD programs. These included the channels Sky Cinema HD, Sky Sports HD, National Geographic HD and Next HD. In the following years the number of HD channels offered was expanded. Today, 58 HD channels are broadcast on Sky Italia (Updated: February 8, 2012). Out of 12 stations in the "Cinema Package" send 10 in HD ( simulcast method).
