Skyang Kangri

Skyang Kangri from the north

Pd5

The Skyang Kangri (also Staircase- Peak) is a mountain situated north-east of K2 in the central Karakoram. It has a height of 7545 m. The height of the South Summit is given as 7512 m, but it seems possible that this peak is higher than the supposed main summit.

On the south side of the Skyang Kangri stems from the Godwin - Austen Glacier, then east of the K2 flows to the Place de la Concorde.

The ascent of the mountain has been tried three times. The first, unsuccessful, attempt was made by climbing a Japanese expedition in 1975. A year later reached with Yoshioki Fujioji and Hideki Nagata, the first man to summit. Another ascent attempt took place in 1980, but also failed.
