Skyglobe

Skyglobe is a program for the simulation of the night sky, including objects from the Messier Catalogue, planets, sun and moon. It took into account the precession of the Earth's axis ( 25,750 years ). It was very popular among those interested in astronomy. It was offered by Mark A Haney and his company KlassM Software Inc. in Ann Arbor, Michigan as shareware. Mark wrote it in 1989, after he had made his degree in Computer Science at Michigan State University.

The latest official version 3.6 came in October 1993 and included in the shareware version of the data of 29,000 stars. Originally developed for systems running DOS, they also ran under Windows 95/ 98 and mostly under Windows NT/2000. For 20 USD a CD with a larger star database was offered.

On the occasion of the event Shoemaker- Levy 9 Haney the DOS version 4.0 and a test basis Skyglobe for Windows 1.0 issued in July 1994, which was run under Windows 3.11. The supplied supplement program CircumSpace allowed to make short flights through the solar system nearby space. It simulated the environment of the 7,700 nearest stars.
