SL X1

The X1 is an electric railcar, which was established as S- Bahn EMU for the company Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL ) and was used in the Stockholm commuter train traffic. A total of 1967 and 1975 104 double railcars were these type of ASEA produced between. The maximum speed limit is 120 km / h and the operating weight of 78 tonnes. The cars were typical for that time cubic appearance and can coupled together with the newer cars of the type X10 and thus be operated simultaneously.

Each X1 unit consists of two trailers. Each car has three double doors on each side. The interior consists of seats in the assembly 2 3. These seats are positioned against each other, so that more can sit four and six persons in each cell number over.

The cars have been modernized over the years several times. In the winters of the 1970s, it was noticed that the trains were not particularly well suited to withstand the cold and snow. That is why, among other things, the air inlets and the engines have been rebuilt several times.

The interior has undergone several upgrades. The lighting consisted originally of free-hanging tubes, but were later integrated into the ceiling. The interior walls were painted gray and the seats upholstered in dark blue fabric. In the 1980s, the walls were painted orange and they moved seats gray, while in the next modernization round the walls again gray painted ( albeit in a different color) and the doors were given a coat of paint in different colors, either red, blue, green or yellow. Later, the seats have been reupholstered with a colorful fabric again, today are still in use. For a long time there was little paper baskets on the trains, but were later removed. However, the brackets are still available. The only thing that has never changed is the public address system.

Outside the trains were transformed considerably rarer. At first, she had always the same dark blue color and a gray roof. In the 1990s, however, a white side stripe was added and on the front - on which there was the series number until then - the SL logo was affixed.

In the normal case, four units ( eight cars ) were operated by train. However, in the off-peak time and on less busy routes, the number of units was reduced to two.

After more than 40 years of use, the trains were taken from 2006 gradually from circulation and scrapped. They were replaced by the new car type X60. The end of 2009 were still twenty units available as spare trains. These were used only still limited, the last EMU was put out of service in April 2011.

The railcar X1 3019 was the Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum passed in Gävle.
