Slate Islands

As Slate Islands ( German " Slate Islands " ) is called an entity belonging to the Scottish archipelago of the Inner Hebrides group of islands. The island group takes its name from occurring there and in the past intensively mined slate (English " Slate ").

Geography

The Slate Islands are located immediately off the west coast of Scotland in the mouth of the Firth of Lorn. The archipelago lies about 5 km northeast of Isle of Jura, 10 km southeast of the Isle of Mull. One of the Slate Islands include - in addition to numerous Stacs and Skerries - the following islands:

Five of the islands are inhabited, more than half of the population lives here on cable, which is connected via the Clachanbrücke with the Scottish mainland. Most important places in the archipelago are Ellenabeich on rope and Cullipool on Luing.
