Slava Metreveli

Slava Kalistratowitsch Metreweli (Georgian სლავა მეტრეველი; Russian Слава Калистратович Метревели; * May 30, 1936 in Sochi, † January 7, 1998 in Tbilisi ) was a Soviet football player and coach.

Life

Club career

Metreweli played in his career at two clubs Torpedo Moscow and Dinamo Tbilisi. In Moscow he was once a Soviet champion (1960 ) and once won the Soviet Cup ( 1960). In Tbilisi it was established in 1964 for the second time Soviet champion. He finished his club career in 1971.

National

International Metreweli played 48 times for the Soviet selection and there he met eleven times. He participated in the FIFA World Cup in Chile in 1962 ( From the quarter-finals ), 1966 in England ( 4th place) and in Mexico in 1970 ( from the quarter-final ) part. In addition, he won the European title with the Sbornaja 1960.

After the active career

After end of his career he worked as a coach, mostly with various unterklassigen Soviet and Georgian teams 1976/77 also briefly at Dinamo Tbilisi.

Honors

The football stadium of Sochi is named after him ( Центральный стадион имени Славы Метревели / Zentralny stadium imeni Slawy Metreweli / Central Stadium named Slava Metreweli ).
