Slide Rock State Park

Slide Rock State Park is a historic apple growing area and a state park in the north-central U.S. state of Arizona. It is located in Oak Creek Canyon 11 km north of the city of Sedona in the field of the Coconino National Forest and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The name derives from the park are the slippery (English slideshow ) through Oak Creek shaped paths by the river in the canyon. Large red rock formations typical for the region surrounding the park, in the territory of a known 43 acre apple farm is comprehensive.

The area was first developed by Frank L. Pendley, who lived in the canyon since 1907 and under the Homestead Act in 1910 acquired land in the year. Pendley developed a still -used irrigation system and planted the first apple tree in 1912. The government provided 1914 leading through the canyon road ready and Pendley built rustic tourist cabins in 1933, some of which are still in use today. Many well-known Hollywood films were shot in the area. The former The Pendley Homestead said territory was purchased by Arizona State Parks in 1985 and opened in October 1987 as Slide Rock State Park. In December 1991, the park in the National Register of Historic Places was recorded. The Apple Farm is one of the few farms that are still active in the Oak Creek Canyon today. In the Slide Rock State Park, there are three short hiking trails, the Pendley Homestead Trail, the Slide Rock Route and Clifftop Nature Trail. Longer hiking trails in the Coconino National Forest are available.

Slide Rock State Park is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Arizona during the summer months. Landscapes of the park will be published nationally and internationally in all media.
