The Slippery Rock Creek is part of the river system of the Ohio River and drains an area of 1062 km ². The river rises near the village of Hilliards and flows in a southwesterly direction through the northern Butler County, passed the McConnells Mill State Park in Lawrence County and flows near the village of Ellwood City in the Connoquenessing Creek.

The Slippery Rock Creek enjoys great popularity with canoeists from the environment. With rapids of whitewater difficulty II and III, it offers attractive race tracks for water sports.
