Sloboda-Ukraine

The Sloboda - Ukraine (Russian Слободская Украина / Slobodskaja Ukraina or Слобожанщина / Sloboschanschtschina ) was a historical region in the 17th and 18th centuries around the city of Kharkov in the Russian Empire. Originally belonging to the so-called savages field, they came during the 17th century in the sphere of Tsarism in Russia, whose Verhaulinie was ever preferred against the Crimean Tatars to the south. For a speedy settlement of the region ensured refugees from other parts of Ukraine that were under Polish rule.
