Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest

This article deals with the history of Slovenia as a participant in the Euro Vision Song Contest.

Participation and success in competition

Slovenia adopted for the first time in 1993 as an independent country at the Euro Vision Song Contest. Because of a bad placement, the country had to stop in 1994. 1995 succeeded Darya Švajger to reach seventh place in the following years, Slovenia has ranked in the top ten only in 1997 and therefore had to stop again in 2000. 2001 repeated Nuša Derenda seventh place, a better result could not be achieved since then. Since 2004, it only managed two posts in the final round of the 15th Place and in 2011 reached the 13th place in 2007. Overall, ended only four of the 13 participation - that is, less than a third - in the front half of the table, which Slovenia is one of the less successful countries at the competition. In 2013, Slovenia missed the whole eighth time since the introduction of the semi-finals finals; so that the country now shares with Bulgaria and the Netherlands, the negative record for the most common failure in the semifinals.

Participation before 1993

National preliminary decisions

Languages

Up to and including 1998, all Slovene contributions were presented in accordance with the rules in Slovenian. While in 1999, sung with lyrics in English in 2001 and again in 2003 and 2004, but since then was 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012 resorted back to the local language. 2009 was the participants titles with little text, but both Slovenian and English. The contribution in 2014 is first sung in Slovenian half in English and half.
