Slow cooker

Schongarer, also called " Langsamgarer " (from the English, slow cooker ), " Crock- Pot" or " Crocky " ( brand name of a popular in the United States and Canada product), denotes an electric cooking pot for slow heating between three and twelve hours of foods at temperatures below the boiling point.

Etymology

Crock means in English earthenware and the " Crock- Pot" this part of word refers to the removable inner pot, which consists mostly of ceramic. The brand " Crock- Pot" was first used by the U.S. company The Rival Company in marketing the development (mainly by adding aluminum handles and a glass lid ) of the " crock liner" used in January 1971.

Special

Due to the low temperature, the burning of the ingredients is avoided. In addition, less energy is consumed in comparison to larger size ovens. For example, for the heating of a head box requires an average Schongarer 0.7 kWh, while an electric oven would this require 2 kWh. However, it is expected because of the long cooking time and the enzyme reactions at low temperature kept an increased degradation of nutrients. The long cooking time is still not for fish, pasta and dairy products, as these may form flocs.

Security measures

During the Schongarer due to the low temperature setting and the closed case the risk of injury is lower than in conventional cooking pots, this may on the other hand favor the germ multiplication or cause poisoning with undegraded Phasin in beans.
