As a contactor system ( slide, protecting plate ) for regulating the flow of water from pipes or to shut off and damming of watercourses or locks is referred to in hydraulic engineering. Larger plants are referred to as resistance.

Types and operation

In the simplest case, the plate contactor or Hubschütz, it consists of a rectangular wooden or metal plate that fits into the cross section of the watercourse. This contactor panel can be raised or lowered vertically ( usually partially ), the outflow ia takes place under the plate.

It is operated with smaller systems manually or with winds at larger with a lift (eg with chains, rack and pinion or worm drive ). Here, the increased water pressure in the rapid closing of the contactor needs to be considered. Modern contactors ( see below ) are moved hydraulically or with Elektrohubzylindern.

In the double contactor the panel is divided, so you can use the parts independently. Double and radial gates (see below ) are used for filling or emptying of larger lock chambers. You are in older locks directly into the lock gates or rounds. With modern navigation locks the slide sit in longitudinal channels.

Similarly, does the hook contactor - a vertically movable weir with two panels. It allows the reduction of the upper part, so that Stranded, river sediments and ice can be dissipated.

When rotary contactor ( contactor folding ) the disk is rotated about a horizontal axis, allowing finer control of water flow with good power transmission. The latter is also the segment of the contactor case where a segment of steel like a solid body from above is pivoted in the opening. Both species are related to the water slide in the construction.

Use

The first applications were probably already in the Neolithic period - eg for irrigation of agricultural land, as it is attested since the early ancient times in many places. Contactors were also used for the water supply to mills and water wheels - "moving mill weir" as so-called, which was also used in mining. Plate contactors were also designed to hold the timber rafting and sometimes as plates or double contactors for Entlastungsgerinne against floods. Other applications include the keeping constant the water level in groundwater channels or infiltration systems.
