SM-65A Atlas

The Convair X -11 ( original name XSM -16A ) was the first testbed for the Atlas intercontinental ballistic missile. Later, the Convair X -12 was the second, more advanced test environment for the Atlas rocket.

A total of twelve X 11 built and tested. The first three were only used in static tests. Number four and six were destroyed in accidents at the starts. All other X-11 conducted their test flights through successfully. The test series ran from 11 June 1957 to 3 June 1958.
