( Listen / i?) Smallingerland ( Frisian: Smellingerlân ) is a municipality of the province of Friesland (Netherlands). It has 55 411 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

The name has with the water " Smalle Ee " a relationship, and means something like: "Land in the narrow watercourse ". The council is based in Drachten.

The other places in the community are: Boornbergum, De Tike, De Veenhoop, De Wilgen, Drachtstercompagnie, Goengahuizen, Houtigehage, Korte Hemmen, Nijega, Opeinde, Oudega (these two are each about 1,700 inhabitants 43,000 inhabitants to Drachten { } the important), and Smalle Ee Rottevalle.
