Smari

Smari (Greek Σμάρι (n. sg. ) ) Is a small village on the Greek island of Crete in the village of Minoa Pediada Kastelli district, and is located about 25 km southeast of the capital of the prefecture of Heraklion. It is a popular destination for tourists because of its traditional, pristine style.

In Smari one encounters the traditional old stone houses with their distinctive blue doors and the archetypal lifestyle of Cretan rural population. In addition to a cheese factory and a rentable apartment there are economically only two taverns, both located in the village center.

The biggest attractions are the smaris Agios Georgos Church on a hill next to the village and archaeological site, in an Acropolis, which can be traced to the präminoische period was found.
