SMART criteria

SMART is an acronym for "Specific, Measurable Accepted Realistic Timely " and is used for example in project management, but also in the context of employee management and human resource development as a criterion for clear definition of objectives under a target agreement.

In German, you can translate it, for example like this:

A goal can only be SMART if it satisfies these five conditions.

The consistent application of "SMART" to give clear, measurable and verifiable objectives:

  • Long-term goals = signposts
  • Medium and short term goals

Objectives and tasks are necessarily recorded in writing for all those involved and affected. From the project plan for implementation will be developed. The implementation and progress of the project are based on the milestones periodically:

  • What has been achieved?
  • Has this changed with the goals something?

The project plan is to be corrected, if necessary.
