Smoked salt

Smoked Salt (also Hickorysalz or Smoked Salt ) is by smoking or smoke flavor flavored salt. It gives dishes a smoky, ham -like flavor.

For traditional production of coarse salt, sea salt often, several days is smoked. Here, the smoke condenses as condensate on the salt crystals. In the USA, is used usually hickory. In modern industrial manufacturing process the salt with ( also by condensation of smoke -derived ) was added smoke flavor and partly colored with additional caramel.

Smoked salt is regarded as a typical component of the American kitchen.
