Smouldering

Smoldering, moths ( Swiss ), Verkokeln or glow is the name for an incomplete combustion insufficient oxygen and therefore lower combustion temperature.

Typical cases of smoldering are forms of smoking in the heating and waste incineration (where it is not about blacks or water vapor), the burning of incense (herbs, incense, cannabis etc.) or tobacco smoking.

Hazards

As a result produced by pyrolysis combustible gases and vapors as well as unburned or partially burned secondary products, many of which are highly toxic or carcinogenic. As a well-known and infamous fire secondary product of the carbon is considered the toxic and highly flammable carbon monoxide ( CO). Complete combustion sufficient supply of oxygen, carbon dioxide ( CO2) would be produced, which although suffocating, but long is not as toxic as CO and also non-flammable.

Carbonization, a fire in a closed room or building longer go unnoticed and are otherwise all the conditions of firing met, it may occur with the admission of oxygen, eg by a bursting disc or a suddenly opened door to a flue gas ignition or even smoke gas explosion.

In coal-seam fires may be caused by the embers, gases and subsidence in significant damage to the environment.

Causes of smoldering fires in cable may be improperly executed electrical installations. When hot work flames and sparks in dust or joints can cause long-lasting smoldering.

Technical Terms

Technically, the smoldering charcoal in the operated ( the production of charcoal, or in the production of coke or Gruda and in the exploitation of oil sands ). Due to the low temperature fractionation is achieved and essentially produced a higher quality fuel in the form of charcoal, coke or tar oil.
