Smrdáky

Smrdáky (Hungarian Büdöskő - to 1900 Szmrdák ) is a spa town in western Slovakia, which at the foot of the White Carpathian Mountains about 7 miles from Senica and 80 km from Bratislava is located in the Záhorietiefland.

History of the spa

The mineral springs of the spa were a popular legend, long ago discovered by a shepherd, whose aching legs were cured by bathing in the unusual -smelling water. This strong-smelling mineral springs owes the place that originally was called Nová Ves, its current name. So the farmers from Nová Ves " Smrdáci " ( Stinker ) were at the fairs in the neighboring towns scornfully called. The village was first mentioned in 1436 as Zmrdec and the spa town in 1617. Of course, the curative effect got around very quickly, so that the mineral springs were used later (since 1740) for therapeutic purposes. In the years l832 - 1883, the deputy administrator of Nitra was built the first spa. It also arranged for his family and important guests an imposing castle, which became the symbol of the spa, built. Later, a large spa and other mineral springs arose were opened.

Thermal springs and indications

Natural healing source is the hydrogen sulphide-containing mineral water with high content of therapeutically effective hydrogen sulfide ( 680 mg / l), which is among the highest-concentrated sulfur waters in Europe. The sulfur mud occurs when air flow of hydrogen sulphide water by loess. These highly effective, sulphurous muds are used in the form of packs for the spine and joints for therapeutic purposes.
