Gateways to SMS

There are several ways to send a text message without a mobile phone:

Web service by SMS

The input message and the receiver takes place in the browser via a website. This feature is often offered by free email portals as chargeable additional power or is financed by advertising, which is attached to the message.

HTTP call by SMS

This method is an application programming interface. It allows to send out SMS from programs, such as for important error messages, mass mailing of advertising or even for writing individual messages in a desktop application.

SMPP by SMS

A further possibility is the SMPP interface, which is used for a direct link and ultra- fast transmission of a large number of messages. These offer in addition to the HTTP interface, the ability to change already fed short messages before shipping or delete them.

E -mail to SMS

An e -mail is converted into a text message. Frequently in use for server monitoring and notification services. Meanwhile, place this service also has its use in public areas where important messages are placed immediately, specifically and mobile on-site as a text message to multiple recipients simultaneously.

SMS to the gateway

SMS to E -mail

Using the SMS service by e- mail, you can send even without Internet access e -mails if you have access to a cellular network. Because of the enormous cost of SMS and reasonably cheap Internet access via GSM, this method is hardly widespread. Most service providers in the U.S. and Europe as well as newer phones support the sending of e- mails via such gateways by default.

SMS to landlines

In the service SMS to landlines the recipient of the SMS is being called on his landline phone. The text of the SMS is then brought to either ear by means of synthetic voice, or it appears as a text message on the phone if the phone supports receiving of SMS.

However, after 23 clock incoming SMS with Deutsche Telekom will not be delivered on the same evening, but Mon-Fri at 7 clock and Sat, Sun, public holidays at 8 clock the following morning, which may have an unintended wake of the receiver result. In addition, the case of premature placement of the call will be repeated.
