SN 2005cs

The supernova SN 2005cs was a supernova of type II, which flared up in the Whirlpool Galaxy ( M51) on 28 June 2005. SN 2005cs was discovered accidentally by Wolfgang Kloehr amateur means. Since it is quite a prominent galaxy in M51, also existed before the supernova already high-resolution photographs of telescopes such as the Hubble Space Telescope. Therefore, scientists were able to identify in retrospect the exploded star on a previous recording.
