SNCAC NC.211

The SNCAC NC.211 Cormoran was a four -engined transport and transport aircraft of the French manufacturer Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Centre. It could carry up to 131 passengers on two superimposed levels, but had only a limited range. It produced two prototypes and four series models that have been used exclusively as a cargo aircraft.

History

The NC.211 was the successor of the Farman F.220. The development started before the end of the Second World War. The prototype made ​​its first flight on 20 July 1948 it was lost, however. The maiden flight of the second prototype took place on April 9, 1949.

Although initially existed orders for 14 aircraft, the production ended after the fourth series machine. The range of 2,000 kilometers proved for such a large aircraft is too low. The French military declined to purchasing due to the depositing of loads in flight was not possible.

Construction

The NC.211 was a high wing and had a retractable tricycle landing gear. The lower deck cargo could be loaded via a hinged bow. On the left side an additional cargo door was installed. The upper deck took the cockpit and a cabin on for seven crew members.

In the unrealized passenger variant 87 seats were provided on the upper deck and 13 on the lower level. It would have a maximum of 131 people can be transported.
