SNCASO Trident

The Sud -Ouest SO9000/9050 is a French experimental military aircraft from the 1950s.

End of the forties, development work began for this supersonic interceptor with mixed drive; a similar approach was followed at Dassault Aviation with the MD.550 Mirage.

In March 1953, the prototype took off on its maiden flight SO9000 Trident. The single-seat machine had a hull in sandwich construction, in the rear, a three-chamber rocket engine SEPR -481 ( 4.400kp ) was installed. Initially were two lightweight turbines Turboméca Marboré, which were later replaced by two Armstrong Siddeley Viper (depending 770kp ) at the ends of the trapezoidal wing with extremely thin profile. The machine had no ailerons, but on the whole wing reaching flaps, the function of the aileron took over the undamped, provided with strong anhedral tailplane with.

In 1955 the smaller SO9050 Trident II, however, had a greater chord. It started on July 19, 1955 first flight and showed total expected benefits, so that you began to prepare the construction of a pilot series. 1957 overthrew the Trident II but during a test flight, whereupon the series was canceled. After completion of a final, known as Trident III machine, the entire project was canceled because a suitable pattern III had prevailed with the Mirage.
