SNCF Class X 2400

The X 2400 by the French state railway SNCF series is a diesel railcar, which was built in a number of 79 pieces 1951-1955. The vehicles could accommodate 12 travelers in the first and 56 travelers in 2nd class, were 27 m long and reached a top speed of 120 km / h The railcars were often coupled together with a sidecar of other units.

Commissioning of 2 x 300 hp vehicles coincided with the start of the series X 5500 and X 5800 Mobylettes with 150 hp and the X series 3800 Picasso with 300 hp. Thus, the fleet of rail buses and combustion railcars SNCF could be renewed before the war fundamentally with three uniform series of different performance classes after the Second World War. Also, these combustion railcars facilitated the replacement of steam traction.

The series was first located in Limoges and was coupled with a sidecar series XR 8000, used on the lines in the Massif Central. There, soon joined the added row X 2800, although they had only one engine, but was stronger.

Since the maintenance costs for the series X 2400 were higher than for the series X 2800, this was moved to Rennes. Until 1989 X 2400 were replaced by the X 2100 and X series 2200.

The X 2464 was taken out of circulation in 1988 and rebuilt in a test train. He was repainted in the Corail colors dark gray, orange and white. Ten vehicles are still obtained in total.

The X series 2400 was built in two versions:
