Sněžka

The Snow Mountain ( Czech inherent tradition, Polish Śnieżka, gebirgsschlesisch Schniekuppe, even giant Koppe or only Koppe called ) is with 1603 m nm the highest elevation in the Giant Mountains and the highest mountain in the Sudetes, the Central European Low Mountain Range and the Czech Republic. Climate

History

Generally

The first detectable ascents were carried out in the mid-15th century. 1456 climbed a Venetian merchant in search of precious stones to the summit. 1828 crashed the Warsaw student Józef Odrowąż - Pieniążek with a trip to the Snow Mountain. A historical, written in Polish Plaque in the Lawrence chapel commemorates this event.

In 1857 the inn was burning on the Snow Mountain down completely, while the adjacent chapel remained unscathed by the beneficiary wind direction during the fire. Chairlift

From 1949 to 2012 resulted from Pec pod Sněžkou a Swiss license built by two - chair lift to the Von Roll system VR101 to the summit, as a special feature you sat in this car next to one another transversely to the direction of travel. Initially, the cable car was one of the Czechoslovak State Railways, in 1997 she went to Pec and Mala Upa, today it belongs solely to the city of Pec, as owner of 71 % of the shares.

Since the early 1990s a loose spare demolition of obsolete plant was required to limit the number of visitors in the ecologically sensitive area around the Snow Mountain on the part of Czech national park administration over again. In June 2007, the construction of a cable car on the same route was decided. The new plant will be designed for only 250 people per hour. On 22 September 2011, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of the railway, which construction has started in July 2012. Way to the summit
