Sobekhotep III.

Sobekhotep III. , Also Sebekhotep III. or Sebekhotpe III. was an ancient Egyptian King (Pharaoh) of the 13th dynasty ( Second Intermediate Period ), who reigned 1708 to 1745 to 1742 BC, according to another chronology (see List of Pharaohs ) of up to 1705 BC.

Sobekhotep III. is known from numerous monuments here, although he is said to have ruled after the Turin Royal Canon, only three years and two months. He built the colonnaded courtyard and a colossal statue in Medamud, usurped a temple of Sesostris III .. In Karnak, Elkab and death he has built or at least be affixed his name there, show how discovered blocks.

Family

There are numerous monuments which call his extensive family. His father was a certain " God Father" Mentuhotep, his mother's name was Iau-Hejebu/Juhabu ( jawhjbw ). As wives a Neni and a Seneb - hena - it are known, as two brothers Seneb and Cha- kau and two daughters of Neni: Iuhetibu and Dedet - anqet. Iuhetibu wrote her name even in a cartridge, which is very rarely occupied at this time for royal women.

Regency

The King seems to come from among the military. His title as a commoner was commander of the troops of the ruler. How he got from there to the throne, is unknown. With this ruler established a stable period in the 13th dynasty, after the first few years were probably run very restless. The relationship with his successor Neferhotep I. is unknown, at least the two rulers do not seem to have been related.
