Pipeline Road

The so-called Pipeline Road (Spanish: Camino del Oleoducto ) shall be observed among ornithologists as one of the best areas of the tropical birds of America. Alone on this approximately 17.5 km long road for about 400 different bird species have been sighted. Originally, this was during the Second World War, formerly paved service road that was built for maintenance of a across the entire isthmus of Panama continuous oil pipeline. However, this was never finished. Thus, the road ends today near the Gatúnsees. Meanwhile, it consists mostly of gravel. The first four kilometers, the road is still relatively wide and flat, later they will be hilly and damp. In the second half of the canopy is so dense that it is almost closed, and here is how to find rare and shy birds prefer undisturbed primary forest, such as gray vertex Ameisenvogel, Breitschnabelpipra, River Warbler and Tuberkelhokko and the intersecting streams spear herons and sunbittern.
