Social Democratic Party (Faroe Islands)

Javnaðarflokkurin [ jaunɛa ː r ˌ flɔk ʊrin ː ] is the Social Democratic Party of the Faroe Islands. The abbreviation dial list is C.

Name

The name of the party is made up of javnaður (equality) and Flokkur (party). Javnaðarflokkurin is the Faroese name for any social democratic party, as is, for example, the SPD in Faroese Tychy Javnaðarflokkurin.

History

The precursor of the Javnaðarflokkurin was founded as Suðurstreymoyar Javnaðarfelag ( Social Democratic Association of South Streymoy ) on 25 September 1925 and was mainly from the Socialist Youth Association and the Tórshavn Workers' Association ( Faroese Havnar Arbeiðsmannafelag ) produced in whose office on the Tinganes MS Peninsula Viðstein was elected on that day as the first chairman.

A few months later, the Froðbiar Sóknar Javnaðarfelag was established for the South Island Suðuroy in Tvøroyri analog. One of his spokesmen was the later years of party leader and Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands Petur Mohr Dam.

Both clubs united in 1926 Føroya Javnaðarflokkur ( Social Democratic Party of the Faroe Islands ). Your programmatics was strongly aligned with the reformist social democracy in Northern Europe, were added eleven Faroe specific requirements.

On January 23, 1928, the Social Democrats were the first time to the Løgtingswahlen and reached 671 votes nationwide 10.6 percentage points, two Løgtingssitze. In the same year Viðstein left the party and pulled back completely from politics. Petur Mohr Dam took over the party chairmanship, a position he held until his death on November 8, 1968.

In preparing the Faroese autonomy law of 1948 had the Javnaðarflokkur relevant content and was also involved in the first Government of the Faroe Islands until 1950. After eight years of opposition Javnaðarflokkur 1958 managed a victory. It was the strongest party, received eight Løgtingssitze and presented with Petur Mohr Dam for the next five years the Løgmaður. Thereafter, the Social Democrats were involved in most governments, last edit by 1996 to 2011.

In the general election of 2011, the party captured a seat in the Danish Parliament the Folketing. However, was not chosen by the official top candidate Aksel V. The Javnadarflokkurin has observer status in the SI and is a member of SAMAK, the United Committee of the Nordic Social Democratic Labour Movement.

The Social Democratic Youth Federation is the Sosialistiskt Ungmannafelag (SU ) was founded in 1965.

Sosialurin, one of the two major newspapers of the Faroe Islands, was founded in 1927 as Føroya Social Democrat and formed until its sale in 2006, the party newspaper of Javnadarflokkurin. Since it belongs to the public domain located in Faroese telephone company Føroya Tele.
