Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan

The Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan ( abbreviation SDPK; Russian Социал - демократическая партия Кыргызстана, Kyrgyz: Кыргызстандын социал - демократиялык партиясы ) is a social democratic political party in the Kyrgyz Republic. Current party leader is Bakyt Beshimov.

She is currently an opposition party with 11 seats in parliament and therefore has a fixed role in the political system of the country. The longtime party chairman Almazbek Atambayev has held since 2011, the office of president.

History

The party was founded by party members on 1 October 1993, but it was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Kyrgyzstan on 16 December 1994. The first chairman of the party was Abdygany Erkebaev. On 30 July 1999, he was replaced by Almazbek Atambayev.

On 20 May 2004, the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan, together with the party Ata - Meken and two other opposition parties joined the coalition for Fair Elections, which was in opposition to the authoritarian style of government of then-President Askar Akayev. In October of the same year, the party formed a coalition with the El- party ahead of the general election in February 2005.

In the Tulip Revolution after the 2005 general election, the party had played a significant role, as she was involved in mass demonstrations in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek in April and November 2006. The party was starting in 2007 with part of the government, as the chairman of Almazbek Atambayev SDPK became prime minister in March. In protest came Temir Sariev which has acceded to the SDPK in 2006 and a leading member of the party was to from the SPDK.

In the parliamentary elections in December 2007, which won the presidential party Ak Dschol, the party won 6.85% of the vote ( about 188 585 voters had elected the party ) and 11 seats in parliament. In order not to leave the party Ak Dschol collect only party in parliament, the Social Democratic Party was probably raised together with the Communist Party of Kyrgyzstan to over 5%. After the counting of about 95 % of polling stations, the party was still at about 3%.
