Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras

Palmeiras ( officially: Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras ), usually referred to only briefly Palmeiras, is a football club from São Paulo and one of the largest and most traditional clubs of Brazilian football. The club colors are green and white.

History

The club was founded on 26 August 1914 by Italian immigrants as Palestra Italia Società. The term Palestra (from Greek palaistra παλαίστρα, Ringer school ') describes in the Italian language a gym. The original club colors were the colors of Italy: red, white and green. Because of Brazil's entry into the war in 1942 the use of terms of enemy nations was banned, and the club had to change his name. The new club name Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras was chosen in memory of the historic football club Associação Atlética das Palmeiras (1902-1929), in which some players the Palestra had been active.

Stadium

The home of the green and white Estádio Palestra Italia association is the ( Capacity: 28,600 seats), also known as Parque Antarctica, which was inaugurated on August 13, 1933 with a 6-0 win over Bangu.
