Société préhistorique luxembourgeoise

The Société Préhistorique Luxembourgeoise (SPL ) is a scientific association of interested parties on the prehistory and early history of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the surrounding area professional and amateur archaeologists. The company counted 199 members in 2012, of which 34 abroad.

Founded as the S.P.L. on 11 June 1979 in Luxembourg City. The founding members were Germaine Geiben - Bianchi, Joseph Lord, Marcel Lamesch, Jean Joseph ( John.J. ) Muller, Liette Muller - Schneider, Fernand Spier, Norbert Theis, Edouard Thibold, Georges Thill, Raymond and Pierre Waringo Ziesaire. Longtime president was Fernand Spier. Vice - president was Pierre Ziesaire, John.J. Muller Secretary and Georges Thill accountants ( to this day 2013). The company's headquarters is located in Wald Cheap ( Müller Thal ).

The S.P.L. published since 1979, a multilingual scientific periodical, the Bulletin de la Société Préhistorique Luxembourgeoise ( Bspl ). In this latest work and findings on history (in the broad sense) in Luxembourg are presented but also in neighboring countries. By 2013, 34 issues have been published.

The company also organizes conferences, seminars, tours and exhibitions.
