Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada

The SOCAN (in French " La Societe canadienne des auteurs, Compositeurs éditeurs et de Musique ," engl. " The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada " ) is a Canadian company, the rights of currently about 80,000 composers, musicians, lyricists and publishers perceives.

The main task of the SOCAN is the collection of royalties for the public List and sending the music of their members. This revenue is distributed as a fee to the artists and publishers who own the rights.

The SOCAN has only existed since 1990 and is a merger of two older organizations that were originally closely tied in with the two U.S. collecting societies ASCAP and BMI.
