Society of Experimental Test Pilots

The Society of Experimental Test Pilots ( SETP ) is an international organization based in Lancaster, California (USA), which is dedicated to the theme of aviation safety and in particular the flight test.

History

A first organized meeting in which 17 test pilots of the first " Testy Test Pilots Society " organization mentioned took part, was held on 29 September 1955. Founding members was including Scott Crossfield. Already at the second meeting, on 13 October 1955, the name " Society of Experimental Test Pilots" was used.

Members

Members can only be test pilots who have completed a recognized test pilot schools. The Association currently has 2300 members from 30 different countries ( as of 2008). The founding idea goes back to an informal meeting of some test pilots on 14 September 1955. Numerous well-known astronauts are members of the SETP.

There are various types of membership: Provisional Associate Member, Associate Member, Member, Associate Fellow, Fellow, Corporate Member. Especially deserving test pilots received the title of " Honorary Fellow ". Furthermore, there is still the award for conveyor " Friends of the Society ".
