Society of Vertebrate Paleontology

The Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP ) is a Society of Vertebrate Paleontology, based in the USA ( Deerfield, Illinois). It was founded in 1940 and has approximately 2,300 members (2010). Annually in the Annual General Meeting.

Activities

It sees itself as a company with exclusively scientific and educational orientation. They played an active part against the teaching of intelligent design and creationism and promotes the training of teachers in theories of evolution. The company also played a role in the intensification of the laws against the collection of fossils on public lands in the U.S. ( Palaentological Resources Preservation Act of the U.S. Congress ).

President is currently (2011) Philip J. Currie.

Prices and Publications

Among the awarded these awards among the most important price of the Romer -Simpson Medal, but there are also prizes for work of students ( Romer Prize ), a prize for fossil collector ( Skinner Award), artists ( Lanz village paleoart Prize ) and for taxidermy.
