Sock hop

Sock hop is the name for a dance, which was created in the 1950s in the United States. In this time of rock ' n ' roll has become increasingly popular. There were many informal dancing in high schools instead, typically in the cafeteria or even more frequently in the gym.

In the beginning was the term for storing one's own shoes to prevent wear strip the soles on the ground.

In Ready Teddy, a rock ' n ' roll song by Little Richard's debut album Here 's Little Richard ( 1957), states:

In the following decades in which sneakers and other shoes types were becoming more common, has the custom to take off your shoes, lost in importance. Thus the term sock hop for every casual school dance was used.
