Socket 2

The base 2 was an evolution of base 1 for the Intel Pentium Overdrive and i486DX4 processors.

Typical chipsets for Socket 2 motherboards were the Intel 420 chipset (Saturn I) and the 82C480 VLSI Technology. 2 socket motherboards support PCI 2.0 and Fast Page Mode DRAM. For the multiplication of the internal processor clock from the FSB clock integer multipliers were supported to 3x.

The base 2 has been replaced by the base 3, which provided 3.3 volts also in addition to the 5 V operating voltage.
