Socket 8

The base 8 was the only one socket for Intel Pentium Pro processors. It is a rectangular SPGA ZIF design, which has been specially developed by Intel for this processor. This made it possible to place the cache and the second with on the chip carrier. Intel thus achieving a faster connection of the 2nd-level cache, the precursor to the " cache on the " as is usual nowadays through better manufacturing processes.

The Pinverteilung the base 8 (modified staggered ) clearly reflects the different links of the two dies.

In addition to the Pentium Pro was on the base 8 only Intel Pentium II OverDrive processors are used. Some motherboard manufacturers increased the upgrade capabilities of Pentium Pro motherboards by fitting out the motherboards with a slot 1, into which a board with a base 8 has been used for the operation.

The base 8 was replaced for the Pentium II through the slots Slot 1, Slot 2 and later through the base 370.
