Sodium chromate is a chemical compound of the elements of sodium, chromium and oxygen. The sodium salt of chromic acid is used in the laboratory as a strong oxidizing agent, as a marker substance in the biological research, as a corrosion inhibitor in cooling devices and as wood preservatives. It is produced as an intermediate in the production of chromium from the mineral chromite, and, like all highly toxic chromates.

Safety

Sodium chromate is highly oxidizing. It is carcinogenic, teratogenic and can cause allergies. The substance is toxic if swallowed and very toxic by inhalation.
